![]() This is I think the biggest gulf between people who stream and people who don't. Try an old mastering, vinyl too, on your home system, crank that Mofro !Ĭlick to expand. You will have the experience of having heard the music. The early mastering are a real ear opener. Not sure what this mastering this clip is.but you can still get the idea. The quiet little percussive intro bows to the blasting Fripp & band as they come in full force and their mind melding !!! Now.the percussive/instrumental intro does increase in volume til the BANG at about 3:44. ![]() One perfect example of very quiet to loud intact dynamics from an early issue to a more modern issue is. Of course on my relatively better home equipment I play the old, dynamic cds and crank 'em. Now.I've regained many of the jettisoned early cds, kept most remasters as well.and use both. So.as I tossed original cds out (traded 'em in) back in my stupid era of.'new/ remastered is better'.I bought the new ones. But.for my little speakers on the go, that I hold in my hand while taking walks.I like the more compressed cds to have the quieter sounds closer to the loud parts so they're not a struggle to hear. That's why we collect CD's.Ĭlick to expand.I prefer earlier, more musically dynamic, less compressed, squeezed sound. But don't sit here and pretend David Bowie on spotify is the same thing that's on David Bowie RCA CD's, because it isn't and it never will be. If you don't feel like doing that then fine, don't. This is what being an audiophile is actually about, it's not listening to whatever Sony decides is the definitive version of David Bowie is, it's about scouring every forum for the tiniest amount of information, every discogs entry, every Dynamic range index and leaving NO stone unturned in an effort to track down the absolute best version ever made THAT' is what being an Audiophile is about. If it's a bad remastering job (which 90% of the time it is) you're stuck with an inferior version. All streaming services do is put the latest remastering job that the labels hand them and up it goes. ![]() There's a reason some of us hunt for earlier pressings, it's for the superior M.A.S.T.E.R.I.N.G.S, something Spotify will never have. "When I found out CD's were just digital files that's the moment I switched to Streaming and never looked back" Yeah have fun the with 2015 Iron maiden remasters with the re-recorded toy drums. It's pretty funny how everyone understands the concept of different pressings or masterings until it comes to CD's and then everyone's brain turns off. Man some of the comments on this thread are embarrassingly idiotic, especially coming from audiophiles who should know better.
